Black Friday, a bargain for scammers

Black Friday draws lots of shoppers – and lots of scammers. Fake online shops pop up overnight with low prices and professional design.

With Bluffsynaren you can get help working out whether a website can be trusted.

When there are discounts everywhere, it's not just shoppers who are busy – scammers are too. It has never been easier to build a convincing online shop: a new domain name, AI-generated logos and bait prices. Shopping without checking can get expensive – and at worst you never get the item or your money back.

5 warning signs to look out for

1. Extremely low prices or huge discounts – If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

2. Copycat domain – Is the website trying to look like another well-known site? Check the domain in the address bar. Is there an extra -shop, or .se.com or something similar?

3. Unclear contact details – If you can't find a physical address, company registration number or customer service on the website, be careful.

4. Card payment only – Reputable online shops usually offer several well-known payment options.

5. Pushy sales tactics – e.g. “Only 2 left”, "Spin the wheel to win a discount" or other tricks to make you buy quickly or feel more invested by winning a discount code.

If you see one or more of these red flags – take it easy and pause before you click “buy”.
