Is the online shop legit? A checklist

Last updated

Fake shops can look just as professional as real ones. Go through the list before you pay in a shop you haven't bought from before. The more points that don't add up, the more reason to walk away.

Checklist before you buy

  1. The address. Is the shop's name spelled right in the address bar? Fake shops often copy well-known brands with small differences, such as an extra "-outlet" or an ending other than .se.

  2. Who runs the shop. A legitimate shop shows its company name, registration number and address. Look the number up at Bolagsverket or allabolag.se.

  3. How long it has existed. A shop that is a few weeks old and has everything on sale is a red flag.

  4. What others say. Search for the shop's name together with "scam" or "reviews". Be suspicious if every review is perfect or they were all written on the same day.

  5. The prices. Discounts of 70–90 percent on brand-name goods are almost always too good to be true.

  6. The terms. Legitimate shops have clear terms of sale and returns and say where the goods are shipped from.

  7. How you pay. Pay by card or invoice, so you can get your money back. Don't pay with Swish or bank transfer to a shop you don't know.

Let Bluffsynaren help

Enter the shop's address in Bluffsynaren and we check, among other things, when the site was registered, whether it has contact details and terms, which payment methods it takes and whether Bluffkollen has already reviewed it. It's an aid, not a guarantee, so always make your own judgement.
