AI Impersonation
Last updated
With AI, a person's voice or face can be imitated from just a few short audio or video clips, for example from social media. Scammers use this to call, send voice messages or video call as a relative, your boss or a colleague. The goal is to get you to transfer money or hand over information.
Warning signs
The voice or picture is almost right, but something feels off.
It's about money or confidential information, and it's urgent.
You are asked to keep it secret or skip the usual procedures.
The person gets in touch from a new number or account.
Examples of AI Impersonation
Fake emergency using AI

Here is an example retold from the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, where a 90-year-old woman was tricked by someone who called with a made-up emergency, claimed to be the police, and then used AI to imitate her daughter's voice.
How do you avoid this?
- Hang up and call back on a number you know is right.
- Agree on a code word with your family, and always follow your workplace's procedures for payments.
- Think about how much of your voice and how many of your videos you share publicly.
Has this happened to you?
- Contact your bank right away. Sometimes a payment can be stopped.
- Is it work-related? Tell your boss or IT department right away.
- Report it to the police at polisen.se or call 114 14.
