Someone Registered at Your Address
Last updated
In Sweden it's easy to register a move to an address, even if you don't live there. Scammers take advantage of this to register themselves at your address in the population register (folkbokföring). Then they can order goods, take out subscriptions or borrow money, while the post and payment demands end up in your mailbox.
Warning signs
You get post for someone who doesn't live with you.
You get invoices or debt collection letters addressed to unknown names at your address.
Parcels you haven't ordered are delivered to you.
You can monitor your address for free with Adresslarm from Hitta.se. You'll be notified if someone registers at your address.
How do you avoid this?
- Write "Okänd på adressen" (unknown at this address) on post that isn't for you and put it in a postbox.
- Lock your mailbox if you can.
Has this happened to you?
- Report it to the Swedish Tax Agency with the e-service "Meddela felaktig folkbokföring på din adress" (report incorrect registration at your address) on skatteverket.se.
- Report it to the police at polisen.se or call 114 14 if someone has ordered goods or borrowed money using your address.
- Dispute invoices and demands that aren't yours, in writing to the company that sent them.
