Phone Phishing (Vishing)

Last updated

In phone phishing, the scammer calls and pretends to be from your bank, the police or an authority. The call is often stressful, because your account is said to be at risk. The goal is to get you to hand over codes, identify yourself with BankID or move money to a "safe account".

Warning signs

  • You're asked to identify yourself or sign with BankID while you're talking.

  • You're asked to move money to a "safe account" or hand over card codes.

  • The person rushes you and doesn't want you to hang up.

  • The person already knows things about you, like your name and address. That doesn't mean the call is genuine.

The number shown on your screen can be faked, so the call looks like it's coming from your bank.

How do you avoid this?

  • Hang up and call back yourself on the number given on the bank's or authority's website.
  • The bank and the police never ask you to use BankID or move money over the phone.

Has this happened to you?

  • Call your bank right away and block your cards and BankID.
  • Report it to the police at polisen.se or call 114 14.
  • Be prepared for the scammers to call again, for example as "the police" offering to help you.
